To be honest I had pretty low expectations. I live in the south US where every summer has been getting hotter and hotter, and in my increasing desperation to find an innovative solution to the problem of heat intolerance, I splurged on one of these. At first it was just curiosity. I figured the only way I could ever try one of these was to buy one and if it wasn’t any good I could just return it. But no, this thing is real. You will still sweat when it’s 90° and 75% humidity, but you will no longer feel like you’re about to pass out from basic exertion. It still feels hot outside, but the heat is no longer debilitating. It has somewhere to escape to.This thing is kinda like a heat sink for your body. Or active water cooling without the water. Or like an air conditioner with no fluid coolant. And not quite as energy efficient, which AC isn’t exactly known for being efficient, so it takes a fair bit of juice. But the cool thing, pun intended, is that the cooling plates are also passively cooled by the fans. It pulls air through itself and draws heat away from your skin, directly through the plastic parts touching your neck. So even if the airflow isn’t to your liking, you will notice some passive cooling through the thing itself with just the fans, provided you’re in a somewhat cool body of air. But when the air outside your body is hotter than you, that’s when the fans feel like they just move hot air, and that’s when we switch on the cooling ? it’s powerful enough that you can switch it on and off as needed to extend the battery, and doing so is as easy as just pressing one of the buttons on the unit. It also can do heating, which basically makes this thing a complete personal temperature control unit. You can also use an external battery pack to greatly extend the already quite good battery life.I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised. Although I suppose given the price, this is the level of quality I would like to be able to expect. I’m happy to report that for my own personal needs, it seems to be well worth it. If you, like me, find that one of the best ways to cool down is to stick your hands in ice water for about a minute, you’ll probably like this thing. As for wether it’s worth the cheese, the way I see it, you can’t put a price on your health, and if heat intolerance is something that you struggle with, well that’s likely to get worse in the coming years. Especially if you work outside.I’ll try to remember to update this review if anything changes after using it regularly.
