This was a replacement for a fan (vintage 2006), which died in our powder room a few years ago. It turns out that a small mouse had worked his way in to the fan at one point, and that was his final resting place it seems. Well, until I recently disposed of the mouse that is. Story aside, this fan is a bit different than the original. Screw mounting locations, motor size, are identical. Instead of a metal wheel, there is a solid plastic one now. It weighs less, so the motor might last longer. In addition, the thermal fuse, which was formerly mounted on the INSIDE of the motor housing on the old fan, is now found on the OUTSIDE of the new one. This means, that if the new fan blows its thermal fuse, you can just get a new one for 2 dollars; instead of replacing the whole motor. So, these are improvements. Installed quickly, and works great.Had 3 of these fans go bad after 14 years in use. 2 were slow to start (5 minutes before getting to full speed) and louder than normal. I ordered 3 of these and had them all installed in 30 minutes. Tip: Be sure to remove the light fixture first. Unplug the old motor from the fixture. Then, there are two 10mm nuts on fixed threaded bolts. Just remove these and let the fixture hang. Then, use a 1/4" ratchet socket with 6" extension to remove the three 10mm nuts holding the motor onto the fixed bolts. The motor and fan unit will then come right out. Replace with the new motor fan unit, making sure the flat side of the plate is facing to the left. The motor should just slide onto the fixed bolts. To make this easy, I took the ratchet off of the extension and socket, placed the nut inside the socket and quickly spun each nut onto the bolts until hand tight. Then went back and tightened with the ratchet. Next, slide the fixture back up into position with the plug socket pointing towards the motor. Again, i used the ratchetless extension to spin the nuts onto the fixed bolts and then tightened with ratchet. Then plug in the motor, install the dome, install the lightbulb and you're all set! These work so much better now and are actually quieter than the original fan. I think this is because the fan cage is plastic while the original is metal, less vibration. Make sure to have a small led flashlight that you can set onto the lip inside the unit while you are working. Obviously you will have power off while making the repair (safety first) and will need a light but still need 2 hands.BUYER BEWARE!!! The 744 unit is identical to the fan unit in the exhaust housing, but there are two differnt types of plugs. I did not like the fact that the seller did not make a distinction that it does not fit all 744 RNL Models. There is no year on the models it fits. The model being replaced is only 1 1/2 years old, but the plug is different. They simply sell it as a "replacement." The unit I am replacing has a 3 prong Molex Connecter. The unit on this web page is a two prong outlet PLUG. IT CANNOT BE REWIRED TO WORK! Now I have to pay shipping cost to return the unit. Check your fan unit before purchasing!Installed easily and works great so far!First one lasted 2 years, this one started rattling after a month.
