This is an excellent, high-quality constructed, all metal, high velocity fan that is capable of moving a lot of air at a high rate of speed. It is both a whole room circulator and a blower wind chill fan at the same time due to its power (size of the blades and velocity)I live in a midrise building in the Metro D.C. Area. It is constructed very well with cinder block and brick that retains heat very well, which is great in the winter but not so great in the spring. Rather than an individual heat-pump for each unit it has a central HVAC system that creates either heat or A.C, but has to be "changed over" from one to the other according to the season. In D.C., from late March through May we have wild variations in temperature. , e.g., 65-82 degrees daytime/40 - 70- degrees night time. While the management is pretty good about changing over from heat to A/C early, there is always at least a 3-4 week period before the heat is turned off while the temp outside during the day ranges from 70 to 80 Monday it will be in the low 80's and all week will be in the hi 70's, but the heat will still be on. The temperature in my unit is usually 10 degrees warmer than the outside air. So I run my Lasko pointed up with the windows open to create a cooling breeze, draw in the cooler outside air and circulate it throughout the room.Even though the fan is not pointed at me and a 27" PC monitor stands between me and the fan, I am getting a surrounding wind chill effect on on all sides and my back sitting 15' away from it. That cool breeze permeates a large living room and an adjoining dining area.Yes, the fan is relatively loud as all high velocity fans are due to the laws of aerodynamics. But it is not as loud as some other high velocity fans I have used in the past. It's a type of loud that is not annoying that you get used to and don't "hear " after a while especially if your attention is focused elsewhere, such as while writing an Amazon Review. But when you lose your focus on whatever you were absored in the noise is there. I am sittting 15 feet away from it , it is on high, the noise in there, but I do not find it annoying. Others may. The sound is not at all irritating. It is a loud white noise with no shrills or rattles. However, I would not run this fan with guests in my home as conversation would be difficult, drowned out by the noise of the fan. One great advantage of a remote control fan is that if the noise starts to get annoying you can simply lower the speed or turn it off for a period of time.I agree with those that say there should be more variation in the 3 fan speeds. There does not seem to be a significant difference in speed and noise between the low and medium setting. There is a clear difference between these settiings and the High settiing. It would have been much preferable to have the low setting much lower and quieter. While it may not be well suited for everyone's intended use, The Lasko High Velocity Fan is a great fan. I have had it running all day and have not been bothered by the sound and have enjoyed that wonderful cool breeze. This fan is a winner and attractively priced.
